Strings by Lavender Diamond's unimpeachable Steve Gregoropoulos make sadders like "Elevator" murderously beautiful and elevate pounders like "A Truce" toward Flies On Sherbert's ramshackle joyousness. Hooks like his mama was a mermaid and lyrics like Rex Warner's Aerodrome, which they don't make you read in school but they should. And also something-something the Go-Betweens, Harry Nilsson, the Reid bros., etc. Devon is now on Slumberland but this is the big one so far so don't let it tiptoe past.
